Went to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo this morning. Over 5000 years of history in the place. It was a lot to absorb.
The display of stuff found in old King Tut’s tomb took the entire second floor and he was a very, very minor pharoah. I was told by our guide, an Egpytologist, that many Eygptologists, on a scale of 0 to 10 rate King Tut as a 0.
King Tut was crippled and came to power at about age 9 and died fairly suddenly around age 19. He didn’t do anything important during his rule. He was a kid after all.
He’s famous because his tomb was found intact, not looted, so it was full of a lot of great stuff including his 22 pound gold mask. No, not a mask for Covid.
Saw some of a major market area in Central Cairo this afternoon. Egyptians are super salesmen, very persistent which equals annoying.
If you even look at something out of the corner of your eye they will be on you. They could probably sell ice to Eskimos and I was lucky to get out of there with buying only a refrigerator magnet and a 10 x 10 inch piece of papyrus paper with a painting on it. Guess I was lucky not to fall for buying a frig and a wall to put those on.
The lady in one photo is our Egyptologist who pointed stuff out at the Egyptian Museum this morning and in Central Cairo this afternoon. In the photo she is telling us about this big bronze door to a mosque.
Egypt is an very interesting place to say the least.
Also, this afternoon in Cairo, we went to the highest point, a hill with a citadel on top. It was a fort that never saw battle but was built for many.
There’s also a large mosque modeled after the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. Very nice place.
There is going to a wedding somewhere and the to-be’s came up for photos. That’s what is going on with the bride and groom photos.
