December 19, 2021 – Cairo, Egypt

Today, went to the great pyramids of Giza, one of the wonders of the ancient world and today’s world too. They were built as tombs for a pharaoh, only one pyramid complex per pharaoh.

The ancient Egyptians learned that pyramids just let thieves know exactly where the pharaoh’s treasure was so they started building tombs into mountains or cliffs. I’ll get to see that in the Valley of the Kings in a couple of days.

And, earlier this afternoon in Old Cairo, an attempt at wildlife photography. The hand belongs to someone else on the tour, a kind gentleman.

After returning to the Cairo Sheraton which is on the Nile, decided to look for dinner by the river.

Had pigeon stuffed with rice and a yogurt salad. Also, a lemon mint drink. I paid 200 Egyptian pounds or about $13 and that included a tip.

It was good but there was a lot more rice stuffed into that bird than there was meat.

After dinner by the Nile of rice stuffed pigeon with more rice and a salad, I ran across one of many places where you can take a boat ride.

I was the only one on the boat, probably because it was only about 7 PM and Egyptians go to dinner much later, like 9 or 10. Plus, it’s Sunday.
