December 20, 2021 – Luxor, Egypt

Today, flew from Cairo to Luxor, Egypt and visited the temples of Karnak and the temples of Luxor. The columns were huge and engraved with scenes of pharaohs, gods and queens and covered in hieroglyphics, some that I learned to read.

The Luxor visit ran into the evening and the lighting made for some great views.

We’ve transferred to a boat to cruise up the Nile starting tomorrow afternoon. Without the Nile there would be no Egypt and no fun here.

Here at Luxor the water looks filthy. It looked cleaner in Cairo. But, it’s still a mighty river and the longest in the world, running over 4000 miles.

A few more photos from the Temples of Karnak and Luxor in Luxor, Egypt. You could spend your whole life learning the history here and you wouldn’t finish.

May sound exaggerated but by the time the US became a country Egypt had about 4800 years of pharaohs and relatively recently a few presidents. There have only been about six presidents.

Egypt has been invaded a few times but it seems the invaders adopted some Egyptian ways and were blended into the their culture. That’s true even for Alexander the Great.
