Visited Memphis. No, not in Tennessee, the original Memphis in Egypt. It was the Rome of Egypt.
But, most of the ancient city is now covered over by a crappy town. It seems unlikely that archeologists will be able to dig much in the area.
Also today, saw the oldest stone monument in the world, the Step Pyramid of Zoser in Saqqara, Egypt.
This is an early attempt at building pyramids and is the tomb of Pharoah Zoser. The pyramid is about 4600 years old.
Got to go inside to the burial chamber. The engravings were in great shape.
Flew to Amman, Jordan this afternoon for the last leg of this tour. We head south toward Petra tomorrow.
Took a few minutes to walk along the street near the hotel. The food at the hotel was good. It was some Turkish influenced dishes.
