Toured Amman, Jordan and saw some Roman ruins.
Then, we drove a while to get to the top of Mt Nebo, the mountain where Moses saw the promised land, the Land of Canaan.
From the top, Jerusalem could be seen in the distance as well as Amman. The Dead Sea was visible, but barely, because of clouds.
There’s a very old Greek Orthodox church on top of Mt Nebo. Pope John Paul II planted an olive tree next to it in 2000.
The hand pointing at where we are on a map of Jordan belongs to our guide. He has given more information than I could absorb.
After that we drove three hours south. We’re staying at Petra and will tour those temples carved into a mountain tomorrow.
