December 28, 2021 – Petra to Amman, Jordan

We four tourists along with our guide and driver drove from Petra, Jordan to the east and then north, taking a scenic route back to Amman.

The country is very dry and desolate but there’s always a human presence. Even the camels that look like they’re free roaming are owned by someone.

The photo with the mountains in the foreground shows Israel in the distance. The valley is where the Dead Sea, the River Jordan, and the Sea of Galilee are but they’re to the north out of this photo.

Stopped at the Dead Sea on the Jordan side. It’s a big salty lake. I’m sure you’ve heard of it.

We stopped at a nice hotel on the Dead Sea at the northern end and had lunch and went down to the beach. I tasted the water and it was very salty, like putting pure salt in your mouth.

You can swim, or float actually, but the weather was a little cool. The water felt warm, but no thanks.

People coat themselves with the mud from the buckets. It’s supposed to be good for your skin.

You can’t go any lower on the surface of the earth than where my foot is because the Dead Sea is 1420 feet below sea level. It’s hard to see but the tip of my shoe is in the water.
