Today, joined a small tour group to go to Delphi, about 100 miles NW from Athens.
Ancient Delphi was where the Oracle spouted vague answers to questions brought before her. Some of the questioners were very notable people. I believe, Hadrian, the emperor of the Roman Empire was one. Alexander the Great was another.
One story is that Athenians came and asked how they should defend Athens from their enemies of the time. The Oracle said, “Your wooden walls will protect you”.
The Athenians were puzzled because walls in Athens were made of stone. But, they figured it out. Their ships made of wood would protect them. Athens had a great military fleet.
Visits to the Oracle of Delphi went on for over a thousand years. Of course, there was a succession of oracles.

Also on the tour today, stopped at the place where 300 Greek soldiers and 700 other Greeks fought a heck of a lot of Persians. It’s Thermopylae.
The landscape has changed a lot because this is an earthquake prone country. I think there are at least two movies about the battle. I’ll watch one when I’m back home.

On the tour to ancient Delphi, had lunch at a restaurant on the Gulf of Corinth, part of the Ionian Sea. Yes, it’s part of the Mediterranean.
Anyway, had seafood spaghetti. Good but very overpriced at 21 euros.
