Today, a taxi driver I met yesterday drove me to the south coast of Crete about 60-70 miles south of Heraklion. The driver’s name is George.
I couldn’t find a bus that had a route where I wanted to go and since George offered the service yesterday, I called him this morning. I wanted to see more of Crete.
We stopped at two archeological sites, one of which is Phaistos, a Minoan palace site.
Also, went to Matala on the sea. There are caves there that were hippie hangouts in the 1960s.
And, as we neared Heraklion on the return, George decided to take a 20 minute detour to the west to give me a good view of Heraklion.
The photo doesn’t show Heraklion very well with my phone’s lens but I think you’ll appreciate the beautiful blue sea.

This is raki, the national drink of Greece. It’s a hard liquor made from grapes. It will make you go Whoa and knock your nose back.
This bottle is some from a batch my AirBnB host’s dad made. So, I had to try a shot. Okay, two.
