December 10, 2022 – Paris, France

Arrived in Paris after spending most of the day getting here. I flew from Stockholm to Helsinki then to Paris. Took a taxi from the airport because the train wasn’t running due to work on the rail line.

It’s Saturday night and passenger traffic in the airport was light. Maybe that’s why they chose tonight to do some work on the line.

The taxi wasn’t too expensive, $53, considering it’s kind of a long way from Charles de Gaulle Airport to the center of Paris. I found out later that the price is capped at $53. It’s a law.

My Airbnb hostess couldn’t be here for my arrival but she gave me instructions to knock on a neighbor’s door to get the key.

Well, another neighbor came out of another apartment and thought I was lost. The neighbor’s name is Nina for short and she offered me some of her dinner leftovers. I said, “Sure, I’ll have some “.

I had what is pictured plus some really good chocolates. The melon is watermelon. I have never seen a yellow one before. It tasted just like the American variety. I had a few pieces of melon. Don’t want you thinking I ate all of it.

Nina’s friend, Lidian, showed up a few minutes later and her English was much better than Nina’s. My French is pathetic. I’ve got four days to improve it.

Nina didn’t have a good knife to cut the bread so I’m going to try to buy her a better one.

And, there’s a lot of celebration here. Morocco beat Portugal in their World Cup soccer match and those from Morocco here sure let everyone know they’re nuts for their team and for the win. Same for the French when France beat England in their game which followed.
