Went on a four hour whale watching tour this morning. Humpback whales come to Semana Bay every year between the end of January and the middle of March. They breed here and then go back north. It takes about a year until a female gives birth and that also happens in the bay the next year.
Male humpbacks will fight for a female and some males may get a chunk of their tail chomped off. The good photos of the whales were taken by a photographer for the tour company. The photos are better than I got using the camera in my phone.
The tour was with Whale Samana and cost $59 US. You should probably make a reservation on their website. The boat, the Pura Mia, carries 60 passengers. Coke and water are available free on the boat. They’ll also give you some cookies.
You can buy the photos the photographer took for $15. You get all she took on the tour. That was about 40 on my tour. I think they’re worth the price.
