Took the train and a bus from Derry to the Giant’s Causeway. The trip took about two hours to the site. The Giant’s Causeway is exposed columns of basalt. The columns are hexagonal (six sided). They were created about 60 million years ago when lava cooled rapidly caused by seawater. Nah, just kidding.
The Causeway was built by an Irish giant who wanted to build a bridge to Scotland to spy on a Scottish giant. The Irish giant, Finn McCool, built the Causeway but when he got to Scotland he saw that the Scottish giant was even larger than himself.
So, Finn McCool fled back across the Causeway and told his wife to dress him as a baby. The Scottish giant, Benandonner, came across the Causeway, saw the big baby and in terror at the thought of how much bigger the father would be, wasted no time fleeing back to Scotland.
Finn then tore off the baby clothes and ripped the Causeway down leaving just a bit in Scotland and in Northern Ireland.
It was a nice, sunny day so I got lucky with the weather. I’ve seen photos and videos from people’s visits to the Giant’s Causeway and a lot were done on rainy, windy, gloomy days.
