May 26, 2023 – Dublin, Ireland

Went to the National Museum of Ireland – Archeology today. It’s full of old stuff that traces human history way back to the end of the last Ice Age, about 12,000 years ago. You know, before internet.

There were a lot of artifacts from Vikings who established Dublin and several other Irish coastal cities. There are also things from all periods of Ireland’s human past.

Another big deal is the Tara Brooch. It’s an intricately crafted brooch probably made for a high ranking cleric or the High King of Ireland around 7th or 8th century AD.

Brooches were used by both men and women to keep the cloak closed. I just use a big safety pin for mine.

Admission to the museum is free. Rent a headset for the self guided tour and you’ll get more out of the museum.
