Took a taxi from Dubai to Sharjah, the city just north of Dubai. Wanted to see the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization. Want to learn more about Islam and what Islamic people have achieved.
Like most good museums I left on information overload. And yet, I still don’t know enough.
The taxi cost about $20 one way and it was about 10 miles. A bus would have been slower, less convenient and you can’t chat with the driver.
The museum was 10 dirham, about $2.72.
Staying in an old part of Dubai was probably the best move. It has history and character and not the glitz of the new parts. Most people in this area are from Pakistan, India or other Asian countries. The Emirati must stay in their rich places.
Taxi driver said Dubai will cool off towards the end of the month. That’s great but I’m leaving tomorrow. Temps have been over 100 F for highs and mid 90’s at night. Maybe air conditioning is man’s greatest invention here.
Dinner was at a busy little restaurant that had Middle Eastern food. Had a mixed grill platter that came with labna, garlic hummus, Arabic bread and some sliced vegetables. Cost 41 dirham, about $12.
