December 7, 2023 – Orizaba, Mexico

Breakfast time. Desayuno here.

Enchiladas in green salsa, and a bowl of sliced onions, carrots, tiny potatoes, cauliflower, thyme. Jello also.

The waitress told me what the bowl is called and I forgot it before I could write it down.

The reason for getting the bowl and the jello is because the waitress asked me if I wanted it.

Of course it was asked in Spanish and I, not knowing what the items were, just said Si.

Total came to 93 pesos or $5.48 US. That included coffee and orange juice.

Have a good day.

The Museo de Arte del Estado de Veracruz, or the Art Museum of the State of Veracruz, has some Diego Rivera paintings and other notable art as well.

Admission is free and the museum is in a beautifully restored colonial building. It’s worth the price and more.

The building is part of the La Concordia church complex which dates back to 1679.

Only the Diego Rivera paintings are in this post.

This whole building is made of iron. It’s the Palacio de Hierro. It was designed by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, the guy who designed Eiffel Tower and the framework of the Statue of Liberty.

All of the metal has been thoroughly painted or it would rust to wet dust in this moist climate.

It came to Orizaba in three shipments around 1892 and reassembled. At that time it was the cool thing to have European flare. Thus the interest in having this building built, shipped and rebuilt here.

The inside has three museums and there’s also a cafe – where I had a coffee.

Orizaba has a nice river walk with sidewalks on both sides of the stream. There are cages and pens in places housing lions, coyotes, monkeys, parrots and other birds, and boas. There are probably more cages I missed. Interesting walk.
