December 10, 2023 – Xalapa, Mexico

Woke up this morning, looked out my window in Xalapa and saw Pico de Orizaba. Looks high and cold. This is the peak I was trying to see from the top of the high hill in Orizaba but I didn’t make it to the top of that hill because of a really sloppy, jagged rock filled trail.

Orizaba is 18,491 high, the third highest peak in North America. It’s about 50 miles from Xalapa.

Que tenga un buen dia

Visited the second best museum of anthropology in Mexico today. The best is the one in Mexico City. I visited that one last week.

This one, Museo de Anthropologia de Xalapa, has some great artifacts and information. It mainly covers the Pre-Colombian peoples of the state of Veracruz. Again, ODed on anthropology.

The museum was free today but paid 60 pesos for the audio guide. That’s less than $4 US.

Time to find some more good Mexican food. I’m sure it won’t be hard.

From around Centro de Xalapa. By the way, this is the home of the jalapeño pepper. Jalapeño means “from Xalapa” in Spanish.
