Had a few things on the itinerary today. First, went by bus up and out of Medellin to a visit a guy who farms flowers. Colombia produces the most varieties of sold flowers in the world. Okay, so that’s not very interesting.
Next, took the cable car which is part of the Medellin Metro system down the mountain into the city. It must have been at least two or three miles long.
Visited a community that has evolved from people living in the old city dump, a big hill of garbage. It’s a pretty cool place to live and visit now. Remarkable change, really.
Then, took the main Metro line to the Botanical Garden for a peaceful walk. Then, back on the Metro and walked the final kilometer back to the little hotel.
Colombia has come a long way in the last ten years. It used to be unsafe and violent for locals and risky for visitors. There are still bad areas, including in Bogota and Medellin.
Good to see this country trying to turn it around.
Cheers
