Walked Hadrian’s Wall Path about twelve miles to Twice Brewed and another mile, at least, to my B&B.
The miles weren’t easy as a lot were along an undulating ridge. One uphill section had stone steps. Thought I was back on the Inca Trail for that bit.
There was a lot of Wall today. The Romans built it along a steep ridge to enhance its function as a barrier. It would have been very hard to cross the Wall coming from the north and that’s where the bad guys were if you were the Romans.
Walked beside long stretches of the Wall and had great views most of this long day. First few miles were a little flatter.
On that part, walked through pastures, woods, on the road, past a dead chicken, over stiles, through numerous pasture gates, past Wall turret foundations and milecastle footings.
Today seemed harder than the previous two combined.
But, it was worth it.
Cheers
