September 9, 2022 – Meteora to Athens, Greece

The two day tour I was on went to the monasteries at Meteora in central Greece. The monasteries are pretty incredible. They’re built on top of rock pinnacles hundreds of feet above the surrounding valley.

They were built there in the early days of Christianity first to protect themselves from the Romans and after 400 AD to elude the marauding Turks who were Muslims.

The monasteries are impressive but they’re swamped with tourists like me.

On the way back to Athens on the tour to Meteora, stopped at a rest stop and had a big ol’ doughnut and a pomegranate juice. I would have been fine with just the hole from this doughnut.

It’s a five hour ride back to Athens where I again enjoyed the view of the Acropolis lit up at night.

The bag is tea grown in Greece. Or, it claims to be tea.
