Took a train around noon from Belfast to Derry. On this train trip I had plenty of legroom. The ride was pleasant with nice countryside and sometimes sea coast to look at. The sun even came out and shined.
The trip was about two hours and cost 14 Ulster pounds which is about $17.50.
Found my B&B and then walked around the center of Derry for a few hours. Derry has a walled center dating back to the 1600s. I can see part of the walls from my room.
Later, dinner was just down the street from my B&B at another B&B, Serendipity House. I looked at the menu and was considering the pan fried fish of the day. I asked the waitress what fish it would be. She said, “hick, a freshwater fish”. I said I would have it.
Afterward, I figured out it was hake and it’s an ocean fish. It’s not the first time here that the letter “a is pronounced like an “i”. Yesterday, on my tour through segregated Belfast my guide Danny said “through the git”. He was saying “gate”.
Will be in Derry three nights. This is a nice town, much smaller than Belfast and much, much smaller than Dublin. Population is about 105,000. Pretty little town, especially compared to Belfast and Dublin.
