There is a cable car nearby that runs to the top of a hill, Cerro del Borrego. The cable car ascends to the top gaining 760 meters vertically. It only has three small cars going up and three going down.
The sky was almost cloudless so it was a good day to take it and see if a view of Pico de Orizaba was possible.
Pico de Orizaba is an active volcano that is the third highest peak in North America after Denali in Alaska and Mt Logan in Canada. Orizaba is 18,491 ft high.
It’s about 45 miles away but it dominates the area if you can get it to shed its clouds.
Well, tried twice separated by an hour long walk around Orizaba but each time I was at the cable car bottom station the cable car system was not running and at least a dozen guys were working on it.
Okay, only two guys were actually working. Must have been at least ten supervisors.
So, found a trail up the high hill. It started out as steps but degraded suddenly into a rutted, muddy trail.
Made it to a viewpoint at about 300 meters above the city. That was enough on that sloppy, slippery trail.
So, walked back and visited a park near my Airbnb.
Okay, this is too long.
