Flew to Halifax. My Airbnb is a nice apartment. I’ve had Airbnbs that had kitchens but no salt and pepper. This Airbnb has food in the freezer and I sure was glad of that yesterday after I missed dinner because of a tight connection in Detroit and arriving at the Airbnb around midnight.
Halifax seems like a great place to live. Kinda reminds me of Portland, Oregon but without the homeless. There are a few homeless here but just a few.
One food Halifax is known for is the donair, a pita filled with shaved beef, red onions, tomato and topped with a garlicy sauce. The donair is common in the pizzarias here. I got mine at Donnini’s Pizza a few blocks away.
The donair is basically a version of a gyro but don’t tell anyone in Halifax.
Now for a beer from Good Robot Brewery, another local place.
Cheers
Just before midnight, April 14, 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg, a submerged portion, ripping her hull. In two hours and 40 minutes the great ship slipped beneath the cold ocean surface. 2200 people were on board and close to 1500 lost their lives.
Here at Fairview Lawn Cemetery 150 of those lost are buried, some never identified. Some were identified much later.
Most of these tombstones have numbers on them. It indicates the number in which the body was found. In this cemetery, the last body, number 330, James McGrady, was recovered mid-May 1912 by the ship Algerine.
This is interesting to see but it’s heavy, sad stuff.
I need a beer. Cheers
